Intraoral scanners (IOS) are devices for capturing direct optical impressions in dentistry.
The scanner is a compact, hand-held wand, which digitally captures the structure of the teeth and gums using the latest optical technology. Your mouth is scanned with a radiation-free laser, and in as little as two to three minutes, the laser renders a digitally perfect, 3D impression of your teeth and soft tissue structures.
Through digital software, you'll then be able to follow the progress of the scans, including a 3D model of your teeth on our computer screen.
The digital file is sent to our chosen dental laboratory where the restoration is designed by the computer software and the information is sent to a milling machine that creates the prosthetic restoration.
The Intraoral Scanner can be used for any restorative treatment including crowns, veneers, inlays/onlays, bridges, and implants.
Intraoral scanning is a very comfortable way to treat patients, as scans are quick to perform and do not require using impression materials.
We have invested in an intra oral scanner as we are committed to progressive and comfortable dentistry for our patients.
I found the dentist (Kate) friendly and warm in manner. She traced the problem with a back molar very quickly and sympathetically and answered all my questions. The replacement filling was put in very professionally and weirdly it felt much better when it was done!! How good is that.
The receptionist was great also- she has the patience of a saint sorting out complicated dates for appointments on the phone. This would have driven me mad. She was also very kind in helping a patient work out her travel problems when the bus gates come in. It was very hot but she coped.
On the environment - I like the house and the sitting areas with their interesting pictures. It is also spotlessly clean which I appreciate. The actual surgery rooms seem up to date with equipment etc although I am not qualified to judge.
I would recommend the practice to my friends. A major drawback for them is the cost of treatment. I am not sure if there is a solution . My last dentist treated our kids on the NHS which helped and so we didn't mind paying privately.
